چکیده
Abstract When considering a charitable act, consumers must often decide on how to allocate their resources across multitude of possible causes. This article assesses the relative “urgency” causes under consideration (i.e., critical human survival are) shapes preferences for specific among higher and lower social class consumers. Across series studies in highly unequal socioeconomic environment (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), we demonstrate that lower-class prefer donate urgent (e.g., alleviating hunger) compared non-urgent encouraging cultural activities), whereas effect reverses higher-class Contrasting experiences with scarcity classes vary consumers’ intrinsic sympathy toward people’s unmet basic needs, which turn donation allocation preferences. Consistent this theoretical rationale, differences allocations decrease when (a) vivid contextual cues induce both higher- or (b) experience is similar classes. Thus, although can be shifted ease, our findings suggest those who have most give do not spontaneously prioritize what urgently needed society.

Social class differences produce social group preferences.
Some social groups are higher in socioeconomic status than others and the former tend to be favored over the latter. The present research investigated whether observing group differences in wealth alone can directly cause children to prefer wealthier groups. In Experiment 1, 4-5-year-old children developed a preference for a wealthy novel group over a less wealthy group. In Experiment 2, childr...
متن کاملUsing Preferences to Solve Student-Class Allocation Problem
Resource allocation is a form of Constraint Satisfaction Problem (CSP) in which a set of resources must be assigned to a set of agents. Multiagent Resource Allocation (MARA) makes possible solving CSP using qualitative parameters as, for example, reduce idle time in scheduling or preferences over the set of resources to be allocated. In this paper, we are going to use a MARA approach to find a ...

BACKGROUND Transplantation is the treatment of choice for people with severe organ failure. However, demand substantially exceeds supply of suitable organs; consequently many people wait months, or years to receive an organ. Reasons for the chronic shortage of deceased organ donations are unclear; there appears to be no lack of 'in principle' public support for organ donation. METHODS/DESIGN ...

We classify two approaches: distributional and intention-based models, and later discuss models that combine both theories. In order to provide a better illustration of the discussed mod...
متن کاملLearning class-to-class selectional preferences
Selectional preference learning methods have usually focused on wordto-class relations, e.g., a verb selects as its subject a given nominal class. This papers extends previous statistical models to class-to-class preferences, and presents a model that learns selectional preferences for classes of verbs. The motivation is twofold: different senses of a verb may have different preferences, and so...
